A light hearted festive competition has been underway within Kingdom Homes to see which home could produce a Christmas cake judged to be the best overall within the seven homes falling under the umbrella of Kingdom Homes Limited. Methven House was no exception and the lovely cake pictured below was baked by cook, Janice Brockie.
A judging panel, consisting of residents from each of the homes was driven around in one of the company's mini buses to view all of the entries first hand and award points for the decoration and originality of each cake. Those residents who volunteered to judge the competition had a great day out visiting all of the other homes. Methven House provided the judges with tea and coffee whilst they were there. A delicious lunch was provided at Preston House, the company's newest home which opened in November 2009. Camilla House also provided a refreshment break to keep everyone fortified during their travels.
Barrogil House in Cluny was the overall winner. Camilla House in Auchtertool took second place and Craigie House in Crossgates was judged third place. (The winning cake can be seen on the Barrogil House Residents News web page.)
At the same time the festive dressing of each home was also judged by the panel of residents and again Barrogil House came up trumps setting a high standard for the others to beat next year.
"This was a wee bit of festive fun" said Methven House's judging panel representative, Anne Anderson, "with choosing the winner quite literally the icing on the cake."
Paula Paterson, the activities co-ordinator from Methven House, accompanied the judging panel round the homes and said "The day was a great success and it was fun seeing just how competitive the Homes could be. It was lovely to see just how much effort everyone has made and to see how much pride everyone has in their own Home. In my opinion everyone was a winner and we should be really proud of ourselves.
I think social activities between homes are of vital importance to our activities programme and to our residents. Not only does it enhance individual social skills but it promotes self awareness and self-esteem. Inter-homes activities are extremely beneficial to our homes as a whole by giving us the chance to integrate with the other homes within the company. Social activities between homes are also great fun and Kingdom Homes Limited as a whole will do everything we can to promote this."
